Here's a peek from a single mom and mad scientist by day job and an unpublished writer of elf stories...
"I don't know how else to describe it other than to describe where I was and where I am now. Once upon a time, my muse and I worked together and the words flowed like... a steady stream after a night's worth of good rain. Then one day (lol, I remember the date: December 1998) the stream went dry and nothing emerged. No words, no thoughts. Nothing that could remotely be described as creative happened. I was totally lost. Devastated. Then I took a big leap of chance and took this workshop (the only way I would let myself take this workshop was to argue with myself that I would not lurk (like I do on just about every other board, loop, class I've ever been a part of), but had to participate in order to fully experience what I personally needed to experience). And things opened up for me. And boy did it help me. Like I said, I can now hear my muse and see her. She talks to me daily about life, liberty, and the pursuit of a villain for the wip. I now dream again. Good dreams. Dreams of stories. Like I used to way back when (not as many, but they're slowly increasing in number and vividness).
I do not have the words to aptly convey the joy I experience on a daily basis having reconnected with that lost part of myself. I know that my journey to self reclamation is not done yet, but I'm not afraid of it AND, more important, I now recognize that I am the captain of this ship -- both internal and external. My muse is no longer an elusive Greek myth, but a reality that is incorporated inside me. Once I made that realization, then it opened up all sorts of revelations like...I can fix me (don't know about you, but trying to fix an elusive Greek myth is sort of, well, nigh to impossible comes to mind) and I can believe in me and my abilities, because I already do -- now I just have more to believe in.
I know that I still have some issues (like getting back to the keyboard) to work through with my muse self, but it's okay. I'm not afraid of it. And I can't thank you, DD, enough for presenting this workshop when you did -- the timing was just perfect for me in more ways than I can count."
And here's a bit on the Muse Therapy experience from a military wife and cancer survivor:
"Hi, all! I'm Rita (name changed for privacy), and I live in Eastern Washington near the border with Idaho. I've been writing ever since I could string two words together and hold a crayon (long before home computers, I'm afraid), and I've never once given a thought to my muse. I've spent years honing my craft -- studying scene and sequel, MR units, characterization, etc, but not a second on my muse. I don't have a name for her -- never cared about her. So why am I here?
Last month I was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery. I'll be fine caught early and all that), but it was a brush with mortality that reminded me how short and precious life is. Right on the heels of that I found out that my husband will be going on a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan starting late this winter. While he's gone I will have the fun of moving my family to the other coast and getting them settled there to await his return. With all this going on, I have been advised by well-meaning friends to "get my priorities straight" and concentrate on what's important. By this, they mean for me to quit writing and get done what they think is important. Every time some well meaning person says that there is a small voice in the back of my head that starts screaming that I won't make it without her -- I think that's my muse, and I think she's right. So here I am.
I'm starting from scratch, and I have the feeling my muse may be a little dusty and bruised from abuse, but I think meeting her may be the most important thing I do this month (right up there with the wound care I'm still dealing with from surgery earlier this month). Please forgive me if I'm a little slow, but I'm new to this."
Feedback from participants like the two fabulous women above has sooo touched my heart! Doesn't get much more powerful than this...
Happy Holidays To All!
Hope to see you "in therapy"...Muse Therapy that is...LOL!!!

Muse Therapy, Christmas in Oz & Holiday Movie Magic!
Ohhh yeahhhh...bring on the holidays!
I'm a Holiday Nut...yes, I'm "crazy" as in that kind of "nut" too...but nothing gets my muses going like The Holidays...D. D. Scott goes all-out nuts for The Holidays!!!
For example, each year I decorate my home with a brand new holiday theme! Drum roll please - to the beat of Amy Grant's "The Christmas Collection" CD as that's my holiday music of choice - this year's theme is "Christmas in Oz"! Our home will become Emerald City...complete with a Yellow Brick Road leading to our all-things-green, Oz-tastic Christmas tree (thanks goes to my fabulous niece Sam for that idea!)!!!
Oh...and the topper for the tree will be this huge, huge iron cornucopia turned upside down and spray-painted metallic, sparkling emerald green (of course)...why?!...that's the Wicked Witch's hat!!! They'll be tons of flying monkeys helping Santa's elves this year too!!! And the holiday cocktail of choice will be something made with Creme de Menthe!
Now...besides each year's over-the-top theme, I indulge in a bunch of way beyond terrific holiday movies! Here's my list:
The Family Stone The Holiday Christmas with the Kranks Jim Carrey's The Grinch Four Christmases and of course all the favorite Holiday TV specials - i.e. Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown Christmas, Jack Frost, Baby New Year, etc.
For more holiday movie flick greats, check out my friend Heather Long's Daily Dose Fantasy-Romance Blog at http://dailydose-fantasyromance.blogspot.com/2009/11/top-ten-holiday-flicks.html
What about all of you out there in Blogville? What gets your muses into the fabulous spirit of the holiday season?!

Currently, I'm driving my DH nuts waiting to hear whether or not I'll be providing Muse Therapy for the 2010 RT BookLovers' Convention in Columbus OH and for RWR in an article-based Muse Therapy series.
So what is Muse Therapy?
Muse Therapy - D. D. Scott style - is all about injecting life into tired and/or stressed out muses. I'll give writers fun and fabulous tools to analyze their muses' funks, reign in their creative divas and up their page counts.
Discover what makes them tick. What ticks them off. And what makes them dance like nobody's watching.
We'll name your muses and host a very special meet-and-greet just for them, then dig deep into their psyches by examining "muse disorders" such as:
** Unleashing Your Inner Sybil
** Writing Bi-Polar: I Suck vs. I'm a Genius
** What Do You Mean I'm Neurotic? No, I'm Not. Well, Not Exactly. But Okay...There Are Times When. Like You Need to Know That. Anyway, I Was Thinking, My Jeep Is Red
** Rorschach For Writers: I See Dead Lines
** Stimulants: When Coffee, Chocolate and Martinis Aren't Enough
Once we recognize, acknowledge and accept our muses' afflictions, we'll find terrific tricks and "trips" to treat our word witches.
I provide Muse Therapy Online Classes for either two or four weeks and can do a Live Workshop anywhere from an hour to a full day. Just depends on how long you'd like to be in therapy. LOL!!
I'll provide fabulous hand-outs and super-cool tchotchkes for all participants. Muse Therapy Live also has a fabulous PowerPoint presentation and hilariously productive, interactive exercises!
More information will be available soon on my website www.DDScott.com as well as at all sites hosting therapy sessions.
If you are a member of a writing group and would like to be "in therapy" with your muses, email me here at my website. I'll be glad to see if I can work you into my schedule.
And make sure you sign-up for my e-newsletter as I'll have a fabulous Muse Therapy contest this month for my subscribers.
Leave a comment now for this blog post and be entered to win a special Muse Therapy treat!

Hello, Universe! It's Me...D. D. Scott
"Hey, Universe! It's me...D. D. Scott. I'm ready for great things. Send them my way."
That's it in a big 'ole nutshell. That's all you gotta do. One of the most profound life lessons I've stumbled upon, and it's condensed into one, power-packed and energy-abundant line or two. Now that's fabulous!
Harlequin Blaze author Tawny Weber taught me this terrific life tip just a couple weeks ago when we were discussing ways to court our muses. I'm blogging about it because in less than a month, the concept has changed my life.
Tawny told me about the power of intention - a concept I'd also been working with through The Chopra Center's Deepak Chopra and Dr. David Simon. But her take on the vital energy created by simply thinking about and visualizing your creativity and success held a power over me that just won't let go.
She explained how I could put in a call to the Universe, summonsing its energy to empower me to achieve my intentions. And wow is it working...and in both expected and completely unexpected ways.
Here's the scoop:
I knew May would be a HUGE month for me because Jupiter and Neptune are doing some astrological bootscootin' they only do every thirteen years or so. Actually, they're doing this dance three times in 2009 so ohhhh yeahhh, look out, I'll be making gigantic D. D. Scott waves from now on...but I digress.
Let me get you back to my point here...I take Tawny's Courting Your Muse class, and she teaches me to put my publishing career intentions into the Universe and summons the energy out there to help me succeed.
Two days after reading Tawny's advise then sitting down with the Universe and having a chat with a gin and tonic and fabulous sunset to complete the scene, I walk into a beyond fabulous crystal and glass boutique in New Buffalo, MI and meet a woman I'm pretty sure the Universe put in my path to keep me steadfast on my creative journey.
The beautiful, uber stylish woman was Basia, a bubbling jewel of inspiration and creative energy. We were talking about her glass designs...which, btw are gorgeous, must-have beacons of light and positive energy flow...when she, out of nowhere, told me "well, you know, Honey, you just throw your intentions into the Universe, get 'em out there and see what happens".
My insides shimmered with recognition and hope hearing Basia's unsolicited advice. I'd never heard that approach until Tawny showed me the way...then, to hear it told back to me within days of my cocktails with the Universe, I was beyond blown away. (Just ask Sweet Man. He was with me. We were forced to stop for green tea and chocolate on the way home while me and my muses rambled on and on about what all this meant. Don't worry. Sweet Man already knows I'm nuts, another thing Basia told me about herself that I could totally relate to and a similarity I think Sweet Man found refreshing as he realized he wasn't the only man loving a creative diva. LOL!!!)
Oh, and one more Basia tidbit, she had a copy of Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way" on a display table amongst her chakra crystals...the very book I digest over and over...the one that allowed me to finally rid my life of the wet blankets and crazymakers dragging me down paths I wanted no part of.
I know...you've got to be feeling the same goosebumps I did...what an uncanny, karma connection.
One final thought then I'm off to visit with my characters and bring their lives into the Universe on the pages of my next novel in progress...
Besides meeting Basia, my little Universe talk has manifested itself in a couple other ways too. I confirmed dates in September for teaching my first online Muse Therapy class for the RWA Chick Lit Writers of the World and am looking forward to several additional opportunities that presented themselves for both online and live workshops. In addition, my agent thinks May might turn out to be a huge month too for securing my first book deal.
So much for Mercury in retrograde...I'm hanging tough and dancing with the stars!

D. D. Scott, Muse Therapist
I'm thrilled to announce a new set of articles I'll be debuting soon on Muse Therapy.
And no, I'm not talking about MUSE Therapy as in erectile dysfunction therapy in which 'MUSE' stands for a 'medicated urethral system for erection'. No. No. This is not about injecting pellets into the penis to ensure erection.
Muse Therapy - D. D. Scott style - will consists of a series of articles launching me as a writer's go-to-gal for therapy aimed at injecting life, words, ideas, and stories into their tired and/or stressed out muses.
To borrow from Nora Roberts, we're going to be getting a grip on our "fickle muse sluts".
I'll show you how to analyze your muses' "disorders". Then, after much cuss and discuss, I'll give you the tools to reign in your creative divas and up your page counts.
You''ll discover, like I did, that the secret to upping your page count isn't done by saying "up yours" to your muses. Oh no. We're talking you wine and dine those fabulous chicks. Whether it's with coffee and chocolate or whining about your wardrobe and feasting on the fabulous finds in some chic boutique.
It's all about pampering those fickle sluts 'til you get out of them what you need.
We'll start with topics like:
'Unleashing Your Inner Sybil'
'Writing Bipolar: I Suck vs. I'm a Genius'
'What Do You Mean I'm Neurotic? No I'm Not. Well, Not Exactly. But Okay...There Are Times When. Like You Need to Know That. Anyway, I Was Thinking That My Jeep Is Red'
'Rorschach For Writers: I See Dead Lines'
'Stimulants: When Coffee, Chocolate, and Martinis Aren't Enough'
Okay...that's all for now. Just a peek. Look for my Muse Therapy launch this spring!!!
In the mean time, hunt down your fickle muse sluts and keep giving them mani/pedi combos. Come spring, they'll be glad you did and so will you.
